Audio Version of the Training Manual for Case Workers

I am proud to announce the audio version of all 17 chapters of ‘Understanding the Trauma of Children from Institutions. A training manual for caseworkers’ are now all available to order for a small price at the web shop of this website. You can order the chapters individually, or all 17 together (in which case the price will be reduced to include taxes in the 1 euro fee per chapter and the Conclusion is added free of charge) HERE.

I have made the choice to let you buy the 17 chapters in one order, without putting them all together in a 13h audiobook. This is mostly because the training manual is designed to continue to be used for reference after having gone through it all the first time. In an audiobook comprising all chapters, it would become hard to find your way back to specific issues when you want to listen to them again.

The contents of the training manual are:

Part I:    Understanding the Underlying Processes

Chapter 1            Why This Book and Who For?

Chapter 2            Managing Expectations

Chapter 3            How the Brain Develops

Chapter 4            How Stress Works

Part II:   What Happened to the Child?

Chapter 5            Attachment

Chapter 6            Physical Contact

Chapter 7            Attention and Stimulation

Chapter 8            Isolation from the Community

Chapter 9            High Risks

Part III: The Effects of Institutionalisation

Chapter 10         Attachment Disorders

Chapter 11         Challenging Behaviour

Chapter 12         Self-Harm

Chapter 13         Health Problems

Part IV: Helping the Child

Chapter 14         Building a Relationship

Chapter 15         Providing Felt Safety

Chapter 16         Communicating with the Child

Chapter 17         Dealing with Challenging Behaviour

It has been a lot of work to produce the MP3 files of all the chapters. But in doing so, I hope to make the material more accessible for people with visual impairments, people better able to understand spoken English than written English, and those who have the time to listen while doing activities, but not to sit down and read the book. As with everything I do, the aim is to ensure that as many people as possible have access to the information that is so important to improve the chance of good outcomes for children.

As mentioned, when ordering all 17 chapters together, the Conclusion is added for free. In order to not make people pay the same as they would for a whole chapter, I am also offering the Conclusion here in this blog, for people who order individual chapters and others who are interested.

No transcript is provided for the chapters, because the training manual itself forms the transcript, so those preferring to read, can order a hard or soft copy of that.

Now that I have finished the work on producing the audio version of the manual, I will put my focus on developing a variety of training programmes based on the information. If you are interested in having people on the ground or trainers trained to fully understand and implement the contents of the training manual, please do get in touch.

Please share this blog to help spread awareness.
